Lemon & Sugar Face Scrub
No matter the price tag or the claims of any foundation that 'flawless base' can only be achieved if the canvas underneath flawless. Now I don't know about you but my face is anything but flawless. I have so many breakouts it's like the himalayas have taken residence on my face, the dry patches and shiny areas swap places every week and I have such large pores and areas of texture I could give sandpaper a run for it's money.
I don't claim to be an expert in anything skin care related, I have tested out a few products and have gone through phases of 'looking after my skin'. Most of the time I don't see a noticeable difference and go back to just washing my face with water and slathering on my trusty Nivea moisturiser. This time I want to try the natural route so I have done some research and come up with a new plan of action!
1. Drink water! Pretty self explanatory but I'm going to aim for at last 2 litres a day maybe 3 at a push..
2. Healthy diet - Now this is an ongiong plan, especially cutting out the sugar, we are what we eat and it's vital to eat healthy to achieve that glowy healthy skin look.
3. Natural skincare
After some research it actually turns out I've been doing the right thing by only washing my face with water as using cleansers that contain chemicals can strip your face of it's moisture and cause skin problems. So along with this I have also come across a natural face scrub and mask. The recipe and verdict on the mask will be in a separate post which will be coming soon - but lets get into the good stuff and talk all things face scrub!
What you will need:
1/2 Lemon - juiced
100g Sugar
1tbsp Olive Oil
1tbsp Honey
And what to do with it:
Firstly combine the lemon and oil together, then add the honey and whisk until mixed thoroughly and becomes thicker in consistency.
Then just add in the sugar and voila - If you feel you would like a more abrasive scrub you can add more sugar, it's personal preference but I found this gave just the right amount of exfoliation.
Apply to a clean face using gentle circular motions and leave for around ten minutes before washing off with cool water.
Why these ingredients? Each and every component of the scrub has a benefit and fingers crossed they will solve my skin issues.
Lemon - It's abundant in vitamin C which helps to even skin tone as well as being a natural astringent so tightens pores and brightens the complexion.
Sugar - Removes dead dull skin cells as it's a natural exfoliator, it also contains glycolic acid which evens the skin tone and cleans pores.
Olive Oil - The vitamin E in olive oil soothes and heals the skin (helps with acne scarring) and is moisturising so no more dry patches!
Honey - this stuff is amazing! It contains antioxidants to battle the effects of aging, it also has antibacterial properties to prevent breakouts and is a natural humectant therefore locks water into the skin for maximum hydration.
With all these amazing properties I have high hopes that using it consistently will get rid of those pesky breakouts, dry patches and texture and give me youthful healthy skin. Only time will tell so I will update you guys in a month or so to give you my verdict. Let me know if you have any tips or tricks to help problem skin or if you give this scrub a go by leaving a comment or tweet me!
